Work On Strategic Roads Near China Border To Start In Earnest After BRO Gets Nod To Employ 11,000 Workers

India’s highest altitude all-weather permanent bridge, christened after ‘Lion of Ladakh’ Col Chewang Rinchen, built on Shyok river at 14,650 feet.

The Hemant Soren led Jharkhand government has given permission for over 11,000 migrant workers from the state to be employed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to construct strategic infrastructure along the China border, News18 has reported.

The Jharkhand government successfully struck a deal with the BRO which will result in the migrant workers getting sops like ration allowance and medical insurance.

As per a draft MoU to be signed between the BRO and the state government, the workers would be paid fixed monthly wages and will be transported via special buses to the work sites.

This development comes after the Jharkhand government had revoked permission for BRO to hold a recruitment drive in Dumka district for the hiring of road construction workers, while citing the Covid-19 pandemic.

This manpower boost for the BRO comes at a time when India and China are locked in a standoff along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh over the latter’s objection to India constructing strategic infra near the border. India though has made it clear that there is no question of it stopping the road construction.
