Sadhus lynched to death in Palghar (Indus Scrolls)
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a series of tweets informed that he called up Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray yesterday evening (20 April) over the brutal lynching and murder of Sadhus in Palghar.
During the phone call with Uddhav Thackeray, Yogi urged the state government to take strict action against perpetrators of the heinous crime. In response, Uddhav Thackery informed that some have been arrested and they will be strictly dealt with by the law.
Two Sadhus of the Juna Akhada - Swami Kalpawriksha Giri, Swami Sushil Giri were lynched to death by a huge mob of villagers on the night of 16 April. The incident though only came in the limelight after disturbing videos of the lynching went viral on social media yesterday.
The videos show an aged man clad in saffron being escorted by a cop out of a building. A crowd wielding sticks is waiting outside. As the aged man comes out, looking scared and bleeding on the head, the crowd takes him away and begins to beat him mercilessly. The video shows no intervention by the cop. Another video shows a group of people breaking the glass windows of a police vehicle.
The Palghar police meanwhile has claimed that 110 people have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
