The Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh has invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against Dr Ayub, president of the Peace Party.

Ayub was arrested from Gorakhpur for issuing a newspaper advertisement with 'derogatory content'. A complaint had been registered at Lucknow's Hazratganj police station against him.

Times of India quotes Assistant commissioner of police, Hazratganj, Abhay Mishra as saying, “Ayub had written an objectionable piece on July 30 which could have led to communal tension ahead of festivals."

He added, "An FIR was lodged against Ayub by police outpost incharge KK Singh. Ayub deliberately made comments which are against the spirit of the Indian Constitution and the democratically-elected government."

Ayub was charged with "promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, and under the provisions of the Information Technology Act. Later, he was also charged with sedition."

Reportedly, he will not get bail for at least 12 months.
