Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to "immediately ramp up infrastructure" towards ensuring a fight against Covid-19 by setting up paediatric ICUs in all districts.
CM Yogi is reported to have taken this step in the wake of an anticipation of a probable third wave of coronavirus infections.
A government spokesperson said that CM Yogi "was reacting to expert assessments" on a probable third wave.
He is quoted as saying: “Paediatric ICUs with a minimum capacity of 10-15 beds in all district hospitals and 25-30 beds in medical colleges should be set up. Also, there should be a paediatric ICU at divisional headquarters with a minimum capacity of 100 beds."
CM Yogi is reported to have "stressed on the need to mobilise more staff, including nurses, health and sanitation staff." CM Yogi has said that necessary medical equipment and medicines should be procured. He has added that physicians and healthcare staff should be trained for such a situation.
