Yogi Govt Extends Parole of Prisoners By Two Months To Keep Jails De-Contested Amid Covid-19 Pandemic

The Yogi Adityanath government has decided to extend the parole of 2,257 convicts. The move of extending parole to has come after the prisoners were released to de-congest jails in the wake of the spread of Covid-19 in Uttar Pradesh.

The spread of the virus hasn't stopped. The extension in parole is of two months.

Uttar Pradesh had acted on the directions of the Supreme Court to consider releasing convicts who are sentenced to seven years or less, and those prisoners who are awaiting trial entailing less than six entailing less than seven-year imprisonment.

IANS has reported that Additional inspector general, prisons, VK Jain has said that the decision to extend parole of 2,257 convicts was taken by a committee.
