Yogi Govt Passes Ordinance To Ensure Strict Punishment For Attack Against Health Care Workers

The Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government has passed the Uttar Pradesh Public Health and Epidemic Control Ordinance to provide strict punishment for attack against health care workers.

The Ordinance allows strict action against attacks or misbehaviour against frontline workers -- including health workers, policemen and sanitation workers. The step has been taken in order to protect COVID-19 frontline warriors in their long and arduous fight against the virus.

The state has seen violent attacks on the frontline workers from a section of citizens, many of these, in areas that are now hotspots of the disease.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has asked officials to keep a close watch on the hotspots in the state during the ongoing third phase of the lockdown to fight Covid-19.

He has also called for ensuring that protocols related to the economic activity in the state during this phase of the lockdown are strictly followed.

Adityanath interacted with the 11 member team which is at the core of the state's fight against Covid-19. He has said that it is necessary to ensure harmony between the health system, which is backing the efforts of the fight against Covid-19, and the society.

He added that both need to be prepared to take on the challenges brought by the spread of the disease.

Adityanath has directed the officials to intensify santisation drives in Covid-19 hotspots and to make the quarantine centers, shelter homes and community kitchen stronger.

Adityanath has asked for the training of medical staff at non-Covid hospitals, for their protection against infection; for the compulsory distribution of the protective gear and N95 masks to them, and the strict following of protection related protocol at hospitals.

On Tuesday (6 May), he launched ‘Ayush Kavach-Covid’ -- an app -- to help people get updates related to health remedies in the fight against COVID-19.
