Yogi Sarkar Plans To Implement Israeli Irrigation Techniques In Farms Of Uttar Pradesh

Facing ongoing floods and droughts in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath-led government has decided to proceed with interlinking of rivers as well as taking up Israeli techniques of irrigation. Under this, fountain and drip irrigation will recieve a major boost, reports News18 Hindi. Small and marginalised farmers will receive 90 per cent subsidy while others will get 80 per cent subsidy to set up sprinkler systems.
A total of Rs 11186.118 crore has been set aside for this with 70 per cent of the funds having been released for works already. 75,000 km of canals in the state will be given special attention, the report said.
Irrigation Minister for Uttar Pradesh Dharmapal Singh said that the existing flood irrigation technique that is followed in the state consumes a lot of water but results in lower yields. Israeli methods such as drip and sprinkler irrigation provides a greater yield with lower water consumption.
Apart from this, several canal systems have been expedited, namely the Central Ganga Canal Project, Saryu Canal Project, Bans Sagar Project and Arjun Aadhar Project.
