In what would come as a relief to many a passenger, the Indian Railways (IR) has said that passengers with confirmed tickets can now transfer their tickets to another person in the event they are unable to travel, reports FirstPost. A statement issued by the Railways said that the Chief Reservation Supervisor of all important stations has been authorised by the Railway Administration to permit the change of name for a passenger with a reserved seat or berth in their name.
Passengers can now transfer the ticket to their family members – parents, siblings and children – by putting in a written request 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
Students of recognised educational institutions will require the head of the institution to make the request 48 hours prior to departure and the ticket can then be transferred to another student in the same institution.
In the case of a wedding party, any person deemed to be the head of the group can make such a request 48 hours in advance.
The transfer of tickets will, however be permitted only once.
