NASA (NASA Official Website)
US-based and world's leading space research and technology organisation, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)on Saturday (7 September) commended Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for its Chandrayaan-2 Mission.
Hailing the efforts of ISRO's scientists, NASA took to its official Twitter handle and tweeted, "Space is hard. We commend @ISRO’s attempt to land their #Chandrayaan2 mission on the Moon’s South Pole. You have inspired us with your journey and look forward to future opportunities to explore our solar system together."
The Chandrayaan-2 mission aimed to land a rover on the south pole of the moon while also inserting an orbiter in moon's orbit, which would help the ISRO to garner unprecedented insights about the yet unexplored territory of the moon.
ISRO's orbiter was successfully placed in the orbit of the moon and is functioning without any glitches, while the rover and the lander Vikram lost communications at an altitude of 2.1 km above the moon's surface.
Chairman of ISRO, Dr K Sivan has revealed that over the next 14 days, ISRO would continue to attempt to restore communications with the lander. ISRO has now managed to locate Vikram lander on the lunar surface and efforts are now on to reestablish contact.
