One of the world’s largest digital gaming festivals, DreamHack, is coming to India this month. Being organised in Asia for the first time, the event will begin on 21 December and go on until 23 December in Mumbai’s Goregaon Exhibition Centre. The initiative began in Sweden back in 1994 as a local area network (LAN) party called ‘bring your own computer’ (BYOC). Previously, the events have been held in Atlanta, Marseilles, Stockholm and Valencia. Apart from the LAN party, which is 24-hours-a-day, sports gaming tournaments will be seen.

The first-ever edition in India is being organised by Nodwin Gaming, which is based out of Gurugram. The event is offering prizes worth rupees one crore. Apart from offering games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota, classic games like Mario Bros, Pinball and Tetris will be up at the event, Live Mint reported.

Some reports suggest that the gaming habits of Indians will increase to 3.1 crore of the population in another three years. The same report also mentions that the revenue being spent on the games globally will increase from $50 billion to $105 billion in 2021. Augmented and virtual reality gaming will be the future, it adds.
