Tamil Nadu coronavirus update

Tamil Nadu police have arrested a 29-year-old youth from Thyagasamudram village in Thanjavur district for hosting “Corona feast” breaking the nation-wide curfew to tackle the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19).

Times Now reported that the youth, Sivaguru, and his friends had hosted the feast on 15 April (Wednesday).

The incident came to light after Sivaguru posted it on Facebook, taking social media by storm.

The youth cooked the food at a secluded spot and shared it with his friends. In the video that became popular on social media, over a dozen people were seen having the food on plantain leaves.

Sivaguru reportedly told police that he organised the “feast” for fun.

Following a complaint lodged by the village administrative officer, police arrested Sivaguru and booked his friends under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The cases booked against the group include negligence that would lead to the spread of infectious diseases dangerous to life and provisions under the Epidemic Disease Act and Section 67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

So far, 1,267 persons have tested positive for Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu. While 180 have recovered, 15 have succumbed to the pandemic virus.
