Continuing the strengthening bilateral partnership and engagement between India and the United States (US), the armies of the two nations are set to hold a major combat exercise in Rajasthan's Mahajan Field Firing ranges from 8-21 February, reports Times of India.

Called "Yudh Abhyas", the exercise holds significance as it would be the first such engagement between India and the US since President Joseph Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took to the helm of affairs at Washington DC in January.

For the exercise, the US Army contingent would include a brigade headquarters and a battalion group of around 250 soldiers from its Stryker Brigade Combat Team. Meanwhile, India will also be fielding an infantry brigade headquarters and a battalion group from the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Light Infantry.

The exercise would be aimed at giving a fillip to the interoperability in counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban, semi-desert terrain, along with attack helicopters and infantry combat vehicles.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that following Yudh Abhyas, India will also be holding "Vajra Prahar" land combat exercise between Indian and US special security forces in March.
