No Dues Pending: Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Counters Karnataka Congress' Complaints

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed concerns about pending central government funds for drought relief in Karnataka, stating that there is currently "nothing pending" and decisions will be made once the high-power committee reviews the situation.
Speaking in Bengaluru, she emphasised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's understanding of the importance of timely fund disbursement to states based on his experience as a chief minister.
Responding to allegations by the Congress government in Karnataka regarding delays in releasing central funds, Sitharaman clarified that no funds are pending from the central government's side.
She asserted that without the necessary paperwork from the state government, funds cannot be released, and any allegations without factual basis are misleading.
Regarding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's claims of the BJP-led Union government burdening Karnataka by withholding funds for various schemes and reducing the state's tax share, Sitharaman countered that she has not received the required papers for authorisation. According to a report by NDTV, she highlighted the need for proper documentation before funds can be disbursed.
In response to questions about the release of National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) funds for drought relief, Sitharaman explained that a committee, led by the Home Minister, oversees the process. She assured that once the committee recommends the release of funds, it will be promptly disbursed, emphasising that the funds are due to the state.
Sitharaman addressed concerns raised by the Karnataka government, which declared 223 out of 236 taluks in the state as drought-hit. She mentioned efforts to support north Karnataka farmers, including engaging the ITC Group to procure their stock and provide immediate financial assistance.
During her visit to a 'Jan Aushadi Kendra' on Subedar Chatram Road, Sitharaman highlighted the success of such centres in providing affordable generic medicines. She urged the people of Bengaluru to support this cause, emphasising that it eases the financial burden on the middle class and poorer sections of society.
