Chandy Oomen
Chandy Oomen of the Congress has won the Puthuppally bypoll necessitated due to the death of his father, former chief minister Oomen Chandy.
According to a report by Onmanorama, Oomen's winning margin was 37,719, which is more than the highest margin of victory (33,255) secured by his father in the constituency during his over 50-year stint as MLA from Puthuppally.
Oomen received a total of 78,649 votes, followed by Jaick C Thomas of the CPI(M), who received 41,982 votes and G Lijin Lal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who received 6486 votes.
This is the third loss for Thomas from Puthuppally as he has previously lost twice to Oomen Chandy.
The BJP has also seen a decline in the number of votes it secured from over 11000 in 2021 to 6486 this time.
