On Monday (18 December), the Allahabad High Court postponed the hearing regarding the modalities and composition of the commission tasked with surveying the Shahi Eidgah premises adjacent to the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple in Mathura.

The adjournment was requested by the Muslim side, citing the filing of a special leave petition before the Supreme Court challenging the order on the survey commissioner, as reported by Deccan Herald.

The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing for 9 January 2024.

In a previous development last Thursday, the high court had approved the appointment of an advocate-commissioner to supervise the survey of the mosque.

The petitioners assert that the mosque exhibits indications of once being a Hindu temple.

Justice Mayank Kumar Jain, presiding over a suit filed on behalf of the deity Bhagwan Shrikrishna Virajman at Katra Keshav Dev and seven others, had granted permission for the commission survey.

However, a day later, the Supreme Court declined to stay the Allahabad High Court's decision permitting the court-monitored survey of the Shahi Idgah.

The Muslim side was instructed to challenge the order through an appeal instead of an oral plea.
