The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Mahametro) has awarded the contract for the Swargate–Katraj underground metro corridor to Adani Group’s ITD Cementation India Limited, marking a major step forward for Pune’s metro expansion.

The 5.46 km stretch, part of the city’s southern corridor will be constructed at a cost of Rs 1,643.88 crore, with work expected to begin by the end of December 2025, Punekar News reported.

“The central government has sanctioned Rs 2,954 crore for the Swargate–Katraj underground metro project. Mahametro conducted a tender process in which six companies had submitted bids. On September 19, the tender was opened, and ITD Cementation India Limited emerged as the lowest bidder. After verifying quality, experience, and technology credentials, the work was awarded to the company,” Chandrashekhar Tambavekar, Additional Director General (Public Relations-Administration) of Mahametro was quoted as saying in the report.

Tambavekar added that the remaining technical and financial procedures, including loan provisioning, would be completed within a month. “The project work will start by December-end, with a target completion year of 2029,” he said.

Two additional stations—Bibvewadi and Balajinagar were approved following intervention by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, prompting a revised tender process in April 2025 and delaying project timelines.
