Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, during the Congress Working Committee's 'Nava Satyagrah Baithak' in Belagavi, Karnataka, emphasised the need for "local and new" leadership and the empowerment of the party’s organisational structure to move forward effectively.

Kharge outlined a vision for rejuvenating the party, stating that while hard work is crucial, it must be complemented by a solid strategy and direction.

"Hard work alone is not enough; a time-bound and solid strategy and direction are necessary. There is a need to give a chance to new power and bring forth local and new leadership," Kharge said.

He stressed the importance of filling organizational vacancies and equipping party members with the skills necessary to win elections.

"I want to say that the year 2025 will be the year of our organisational empowerment. We will fill all the vacant posts in the organisation. We will fully implement the Udaipur Declaration. We will equip our organisation with the necessary skills to win elections from AICC to Mandal and booth," he added.

Kharge further emphasised the need for ideological commitment in the party, stating that new members should be connected to the party’s values.

"We will have to find such people who are ideologically committed. Who are ready to fight to protect the Constitution. Who believe in the Idea of India of the Congress Party. Such people will have to be connected to the party. They will have to be brought into the mainstream," he said.

The CWC meeting, held to commemorate the birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi, also saw Kharge reflect on the legacies of Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru.

"We have the power of ideas, the legacy of Gandhi-Nehru and the heritage of great leaders. We will return from Belagavi with a new message and a new resolve," Kharge said.

Kharge also took a strong stance against the BJP, accusing them of spreading lies and urged Congress workers to "expose and defeat" them.

"Those who have taken an oath on the Constitution are the ones spreading lies. Those in power take the help of falsehood and accuse us. We have to expose and defeat such people," he said.

However, despite Kharge’s calls for empowerment and rejuvenation, his leadership has faced significant setbacks in recent state assembly elections.

The Congress has struggled to make gains, with its performance in key states being widely regarded as disappointing.

Whether changes in the central leadership will be implemented remains to be seen.
