Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level meeting on Friday (9 May) afternoon in New Delhi to assess the prevailing border situation and evaluate security arrangements at airports nationwide.
The closed-door meeting, held at Shah’s residence and lasting nearly an hour, commenced at 12:30 om, ANI reported.
Attending the session were Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, BSF Director General Daljit Chawdhary, CISF Director General RS Bhatti, and BCAS Director General Rajesh Nirwan.
The focus remained firmly on reviewing border security protocols and strengthening aviation security amid rising cross-border tensions.
This review comes in the wake of Thursday night’s missile and drone offensive by Pakistan, targeting several Indian regions including Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, and Jaisalmer.
Sources suggest the meeting emphasised inter-agency coordination, advanced surveillance systems, and enhanced rapid response mechanisms, particularly for vulnerable sites like airports.
Officials provided the Home Minister with detailed updates on the security scenario and the preparedness of their respective forces.
Hours before the Friday meeting, a significant infiltration attempt was foiled by alert Border Security Force personnel in the Samba Sector of Jammu Frontier.
In the early hours of Friday, a large group of terrorists attempted to breach the border under cover fire from Pakistan Rangers near the Dhandhar post.
The BSF swiftly retaliated, neutralising at least seven terrorists and causing substantial damage to a Pakistani post. Thermal imagery captured the destruction, according to officials.
This event triggered heightened security concerns, leading to a comprehensive review of the airport and border defence mechanisms.
The government is now pushing for an integrated approach, enhancing security frameworks to address emerging threats and safeguard national integrity in sensitive zones and public infrastructure.
