The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, convened on Wednesday (22 January) at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, where several significant decisions were made to accelerate the State’s development.

The highlight of the meeting was the approval of major infrastructure and policy initiatives, including a revamp of aerospace and defence policies aimed at attracting substantial investments to the sector.

The Cabinet granted in-principle approval for two major connectivity projects — the 320-kilometre-long Vindhya Expressway and the 100-kilometre Vindhya-Purvanchal Link Expressway.

These projects are expected to enhance regional connectivity and boost socio-economic development.

According to the UP government’s statement, the 320-kilometre Vindhya Expressway will link Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Chandauli, and Sonbhadra.

Starting from the Ganga Expressway in Prayagraj and ending at NH 39 in Sonbhadra, it will provide direct connectivity between the Ganga and Vindhya Expressways, while improving links to Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav criticized the Cabinet meeting’s venue, stating, “Kumbh and Prayagraj are not places where political programmes and decisions should be taken.” He accused the ruling party of leveraging the religious gathering for political messaging.
