Bengaluru Metro Ridership Crosses 1 Million Mark In A Day For First Time After Yellow Line Launch

Bengaluru’s Namma Metro has set a new record for single-day ridership, crossing the one-million mark for the first time, a day after the launch of its Yellow Line, the Hindustan Times reported.
On Monday (11 August), just a day after the corridor’s inauguration, the network carried 10,48,031 passengers across its three operational lines.
According to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) data, the Purple Line (Line 1) handled 4,51,816 commuters, the Green Line (Line 2) saw 2,91,677 boardings, and the newly opened Yellow Line (Line 3) logged 52,215 passengers on its first day of commercial operations.
Another 2,52,323 commuters used interchange stations.
The previous highest ridership, 9,66,732 passengers, was recorded on 4 June during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s victory celebrations, when only the Purple and Green lines were operational.

Officials reportedly credited the surge to the Yellow Line’s debut, which had been delayed by over four years.
The 19.15-km elevated corridor, part of Phase 2 of the metro project, was built for Rs 7,160 crore and connects RV Road to Bommasandra. It features 16 stations serving key commercial and IT hubs.
Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (10 August), the Yellow Line is expected to benefit over eight lakh daily commuters in South Bengaluru, significantly reducing road congestion.
With the expanded network now covering 96 km, BMRCL projects that overall metro ridership could soon reach 12.5 lakh passengers per day.
