Bengaluru’s Circular Railway DPR Nears Completion, Suburban Rail Project Set For 2027 Completion

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Bengaluru’s 287-km Circular Railway is nearing completion and is expected to enhance the city’s rail capacity, Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna stated on Friday (14 February), The New Indian Express reported.
He further noted that the Bengaluru Suburban Railway project is slated for completion by 2027.
Addressing the concluding session of Invest Karnataka, Somanna emphasised Bengaluru’s rising prominence on the global stage.
The proposed Circular Railway project in Bengaluru aims to improve mobility and transportation by linking key peripheral areas such as Devanahalli, Doddaballapura, and Malur.
Somanna revealed that a mega railway terminal is planned for Devanahalli.
He said that the railway network in Karnataka is expanding.
The Union Minister said that Rs 12,000 crore has been allocated for Central and State projects.
“We are hoping that by 2027-end, Bengaluru Suburban project will be complete,’’ he said.
He stressed that industrial development could see a significant boost if district centres facilitate land allocation, power supply, and other basic amenities in Bengaluru’s outskirts.
He urged investors to explore opportunities in Kolar, Tumakuru, Kalyana, and Kittur Karnataka, highlighting their potential for growth.
“Our industrial policies, both State and Central, stress on this issue,’’ the minister added.
