Centre Sanctions Rs 803 Crore For 152 Road Projects To Upgrade Delhi’s Connectivity And Road Quality

The Union Government has approved funding of Rs 803 crore for 152 road related projects across the national capital, news agency PTI reported, citing officials.
The funds have been sanctioned under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), following a request made by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a meeting chaired by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in July.
"The competent authority in this ministry has agreed to approve the work listed to an amount of Rs 803.39 crore to meet the cost of work debitable to the allocations of the Government of NCT of Delhi under the CRIF Act, 2000," the letter issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways was quoted as saying by PTI.
The Public Works Department (PWD), which maintains around 1,400 km of Delhi’s roads, is already executing a plan to upgrade 600 km of stretches this year.
PWD Minister Parvesh Verma described the sanction as a landmark step, stating, “This is a historic moment in our mission to build a Viksit Delhi. Roads are the arteries of any modern city, and by strengthening these critical corridors, we are ensuring safety, speed, and sustainability for millions of daily commuters.”
The projects will focus on strengthening, resurfacing, and repairing major stretches across the city, aimed at reducing dust pollution, easing congestion, and improving road safety.
South Delhi will see works on Press Enclave Road (3.78 km), Old Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, August Kranti Marg (2 km), Nelson Mandela Marg (4 km), and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg (2 km).
In the north and northeast, works will cover the Eastern Approach Road near ISBT Kashmere Gate (3.5 km), Shastri Park flyover (3.1 km), ITO Vikas Marg (3.14 km), and Main Burari Road (7.1 km).
Central and New Delhi areas will see strengthening of Guru Tegh Bahadur Road and Vishvidyala Road, covering 3 km in total.
