Days after U.S Congress passed a $1trillion bill to repair and upgrade America’s ageing infrastructure, Communist Party’s flagship mouthpiece People’s Daily termed the President Joe Biden's plan a "feeble imitation" that will not yield desired results.

Described by US President Joe Biden called the vote a "monumental" step forward, the infrastructure bill allocates $5500 billion for new infrastructure investment in the next 5 year including $70 billion for passenger rail, $40 billion of new funding for fixing bridges$65 billion to will ensure better access to high-speed internet and $2.5bn to improve inland waterways.

An editorial published by the outlet said that the U.S spending plan, now approved by both the Senate and Congress, will by no means solve all the the country's infrastructure challenges nor will it provide vitality to compete with China "in the sphere of large-scale infrastructure projects".

Noting that US major infrastructure projects are mostly driven by the private sector, the editorial said that Biden administration is attempting to reengineer the dynamics of the US economy by pivoting towards a state-led "planned economy" model.

"Some US infrastructure is outdated in comparison with China's. In fact, the two cannot really be compared. Most of China's infrastructure was built relatively recently, so it is normal that such projects are more advanced." the editorial stated.

"The US will never be able to build such a high-density railway network as China's and its total level of expressways will certainly fall behind China's." the editorial asserted.

Terming any attempt to revitalize US competitiveness relying merely on a stimulus bill as a "fairytale", the editorial claimed that U.S has lost the most basic spirit of seeking truth from facts in politics, and its social ethic of hard work has disintegrated.

"Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the US government has repeatedly proposed large-scale stimulus. The country with dollar hegemony has used its "endless money" to issue various kinds of subsidy. This has created a scenario where people can live on subsidy without going to work." the editorial wrote criticising the the massive economic stimulus announced by U.S in the last two years.
