Cyber City RRTS Station Uncertainty Halts Gurugram Metro Phase 2 Progress, NCRTC Yet To Decide On Final Location

A high-level panel constituted by the Haryana government convened its first meeting on Friday (25 July) to resolve the ongoing stalemate surrounding the location of the proposed RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System) station at Cyber City, Gurugram.

According to the Times of India report, meeting was chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (Town and Country Planning) A K Singh, with top officials including GMDA CEO Shyamal Misra, GMRL MD Chander Shekhar Khare, and NCRTC’s Chief Project Manager K K Gupta in attendance.

The stalemate revolves around the uncertainty regarding the final alignment of the proposed RRTS station, which is stalling progress on Phase 2 of the new metro corridor between Cyber City and Hero Honda Chowk.

The panel directed NCRTC to present a detailed layout of all proposed station sites within the city to help facilitate a resolution.

While Hero Honda Chowk’s interchange has been finalised, the situation in Cyber City remains complex.

Officials from Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) stressed the importance of integrating the metro and RRTS networks.

“We want an integrated station with RRTS at Cyber City, but we are unable to freeze the terminal station unless NCRTC finalises its plan,” a GMRL official was quoted as saying in the ToI report.

The latter is NCRTC’s preferred site, though it faces objections from HSIIDC, which is reluctant to part with land due to congestion concerns.

Originally approved in 2019 along the Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road, the RRTS route was shifted in August 2023 to follow NH8.

GMRL accordingly altered its metro alignment to accommodate the change.

However, until the Cyber City RRTS station is confirmed, Phase 2’s design remains in limbo.

Meanwhile, Phase 1 of the metro line, covering 15.2 km from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9 and a spur to the Dwarka Expressway, is moving ahead.

Construction is expected to begin by September, once the contractor is finalised in August.
