News Brief
(DMRC)
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has unveiled an ambitious plan to expand metro connectivity across Delhi-NCR under Phase-5, proposing 18 new corridors spanning 206.5 km, according to a Jagran report.
The detailed project report (DPR) for some corridors has already been submitted, while financial support from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has been sought for feasibility studies, research, and mobility planning for the remaining routes.
The proposed network will be developed in two phases, with three priority corridors in Phase I and fifteen more in Phase II.
Phase I: Priority Corridors
Central Vista Corridor (9.5 km, Underground)
This corridor will connect Indraprastha to Ramakrishna Ashram, improving access to India Gate, Kartavya Path, Rashtrapati Bhavan, and major government offices. DMRC submitted its DPR in February 2024.
Aerocity-Terminal 1 Corridor (2.3 km, Underground)
This corridor will link Aerocity to Terminal 1 of IGI Airport via a single underground station. The DPR was submitted to the Delhi government in February 2023.
Tughlakabad-Kalindi Kunj Corridor (4 km, Elevated)
This corridor will feature three elevated stations. Its DPR was submitted in December 2023.
The second phase includes 15 corridors, five of which will connect Delhi with NCR regions.
Three of these are being developed with the Delhi-Haryana government partnership, while two will involve Delhi-Uttar Pradesh cooperation.
Among the 18 corridors, four will be entirely new:
Mayapuri to Kashmiri Gate
CGO Complex to Surya Vihar (Faridabad)
Mayur Vihar Phase-3 to Loni Border
Najafgarh-Nangloi Metro Corridor
The remaining 14 corridors will extend existing metro lines to reduce congestion. Some of these extensions have DPRs submitted, while others are under preparation.
Despite the detailed planning, Phase-5 is still in its early stages, with the proposed corridors awaiting formal approval.
Some adjustments in alignment and design may occur during discussions with central and state governments, particularly regarding financial approval. The final project structure will be confirmed once all approvals are granted.
