Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday (2 April) inaugurated three key infrastructure projects in Jorhat, worth Rs 110.75 crore, aimed at enhancing connectivity, public services, and administrative efficiency, ANI reported.

Among the major projects was the newly constructed Convention Centre at Chinnamara, built at a cost of Rs 19.98 crore.

Spread over 3,118 square metres, the centre has a seating capacity of 120 and features an exclusive lounge, a media conference hall, and suite cabins.

This state-of-the-art facility would help both local administration and citizens organise various events efficiently.

The two-lane flyover on the North East Frontier Railway (NFR) was another projected launched by CM Sarma.

Connecting Jorhat Medical College to Mission Hospital, this Rs 78.27 crore project spans 581.20 metres and was jointly undertaken by the State Government and NFR.

The flyover is expected to improve urban mobility and ease congestion.

Additionally, Sarma inaugurated an Automated Testing Station in Jorhat, built at a cost of Rs 12.5 crore under the public-private partnership model.

The testing centre will replace manual vehicle fitness tests with automated systems, benefiting Jorhat, Golaghat, and Sivasagar districts. This follows the inauguration of a similar centre in Biswanath on 31 March 2025, worth Rs 15.57 crore.

Speaking on upcoming projects, Sarma said that the district commissioner's office at Cinnamara in Jorhat has completed 50 per cent of its works and by the beginning of 2026, the office can be dedicated to the service of the people.

Further, the Bhogdoi Flyover will be completed by March 2026.

He also announced a Rs 180 crore Freedom Struggle Memorial Museum at Jorhat Central Jail, to honour Assam’s freedom fighters.

During his visit, Sarma also laid the foundation stone for the Co-District Commissioner’s office in Naduar, Sonitpur district.

Further, the state government will construct the 20 km Itakhola-Tiwaripal-Sotiya-Diplonga road under the Assam Mala scheme.

He also announced Rs 7 crore for a bridge on the Biswanath-Panpur road and flood mitigation measures in the region.
