East Coast Railway Begins Rs 1,000 Crore Safety Fencing Project To Enable High-Speed Train Operations

In a significant push towards railway safety and high-speed operations, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has launched a fencing project worth over Rs 1,000 crore across various sections of its network, PTI reported.

According to an official statement, A total of 2,792 kilometres of safety fencing work at a cost of Rs 865 crore has been undertaken to enhance safety.

Additionally, Rs 207 crore has been allocated for track safety fencing in the Titilagarh-Lakholi and Balangir-Theruvali-Singapur Road rail sections.

These works aim to ensure safe train operations, prevent trespassing, and restrict the movement of cattle and wild animals near railway tracks, the official statement said.

The ECoR, which consists of the Khurda Road, Sambalpur, and Waltair divisions, has prioritised safety enhancement in multiple stretches.

Under the Khurda Road Division, the railways have sanctioned Rs 388.85 crore for fencing along a 1,025.3 km stretch.

A proposal is also under consideration for fencing in the Jakhapura-Kendujhargarh-Nayagarh railway section and other vulnerable areas.


An additional 188.89 km of fencing between Balangir-Theruvali-Singapur Road is under sanction, while 172.781 km between Titilagarh & Lakholi is under proposal.

Similarly, under Waltair Division (600 km), Rs 187.19 crore has been sanctioned for 600 km stretch.

This large-scale initiative will enable train operations at speeds of 130 kmph and beyond across several sections.

Work has already commenced on two pilot sections near Bhubaneswar and Palasa Railway Stations, along with the Brahmapur-Golanthara Rail Section and in some sensitive locations over Sambalpur Division, stated the official release.

As of now, 30 km of fencing has been completed.
