BJP has fielded former Indian Ambassador to US Taranjit Singh Sandhu from Amritsar Seat


The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday (30 March) released its eighth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.

In the eighth list, the party has declared 11 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in three states - Odisha, Punjab and West Bengal.

Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh's wife Preneet Kaur, who recently quit Congress to join the BJP, has got ticket from Patiala.

Three-time Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, grandson of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, will contest from Ludhiana, and Sushil Kumar Rinku, who recently left AAP, has been fielded from Jalandhar.

Former Indian ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who joined BJP, will make his electoral debut from Amritsar.

Meanwhile, Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, who was MP from Gurdaspur, has been dropped by BJP, and Dinesh Singh Babbu has been fielded from the constituency instead.


In Odisha, six-time MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, who recently quit BJD and joined BJP, has been fielded from Cuttack.

Rabindra Narayan Behera will contest on BJP ticket from Jazpur seat in Odisha, while Sukanta Kumar Panigrahi has been fielded by the party from state's Kandhamal constituency.

In West Bengal, former IPS officer Debashish Dhar, a 2010 batch IPS officer who resigned from his service on 20 March to join politics, has been fielded by BJP from Birbhum seat.

Pranat Tudu will contest on BJP ticket from West Bengal’s Jhargram.
