The much-anticipated Pune Metro Line 3, connecting the bustling IT hub of Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar over a 23 km stretch, has suffered yet another setback.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) confirmed that the project deadline has officially been extended once more, following approval from the executive committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), as reported by Pune Pulse.

PMRDA Commissioner Dr Yogesh Mhase stated that the extension had been formally sanctioned.

The committee has sanctioned a fresh extension for completing the project, he said, pointing to unavoidable delays that have hindered progress despite over 85 per cent of the civil work being completed.

Among the key bottlenecks are unresolved barricading approvals along high-traffic routes and sluggish utility relocation efforts, which have in turn stalled the timeline for essential trial runs.

Originally slated to be functional by now, the corridor has seen its timeline revised multiple times, leading to mounting frustration among city commuters and professionals who rely on public transport, particularly in the traffic-congested Hinjawadi area.

“It feels like the deadline keeps getting pushed every few months. People are losing patience,” said a member of a local commuter advocacy group.

Despite the delay, authorities insist that the new target is within reach, provided no additional disruptions arise.

The entire corridor will be launched in one go once final works are wrapped up, a move PMRDA believes will ensure smoother operations from day one.
