Gadkari Sets Rs 10 Lakh Crore Yearly Road Award Goal; FY26 Target At Rs 7 Lakh Crore

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the government has already awarded road projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore this year and plans to award another Rs 5 lakh crore by year-end, raising the total to Rs 7 lakh crore by the end of FY26, reported The Times Of India.
He stated that the government intends to award Rs 10 lakh crore in road projects annually from then on, highlighting that the award process is “transparent, time-bound and corruption-free” and that funds are ample.
He acknowledged that the sector experienced a slowdown recently due to the cancellation of the Bharatmala programme but signaled renewed momentum.
He reaffirmed his ambition of achieving 100 km of road construction per day, far surpassing the previous peak of 37 km per day in 2020–21.
“Besides, a relief on one-time tax on registration of construction equipment running on alternate fuels is also under consideration,” he added.
Gadkari also claimed, “This will substitute huge fuel imports worth Rs 22 lakh crore annually, reduce pollution, and boost indigenous innovation,” calling the measure a win-win for industry, government, and the economy.
