News Brief
UP CM Yogi Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday (27 April) inspected the construction works of the Meerut-Prayagraj Ganga Expressway.
He directed the concerned officials to ensure that all work is completed with high quality and within the set timelines, according to the UP Chief Minister's Office (CMO).
The six-lane (expandable to eight) access-controlled expressway will link Meerut to Prayagraj.
The project aims to reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from 10–12 hours to about 6–8 hours.
The expressway will begin at Bijauli village on the Meerut-Bulandshahr highway and end near Judapur Dadu village on NH-19 in Prayagraj.
The Ganga Expressway will pass through 518 villages in 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, and Pratapgarh.
The expressway will feature 28 flyovers, 381 underpasses, and 126 small bridges.
Public convenience complexes will be developed at nine different locations along the Ganga Expressway.
The design of the expressway includes a provision for emergency landings of fighter jets and helicopters. A 3.5 km long runway is being constructed in Shahjahanpur for this purpose, News18 reported.
As of 4 April 2025, major progress has been made in building the main carriageway — the central part of the road where vehicles travel.
The earthwork (preparing the ground) is 99 per cent complete.
The C&G (Curbs and Gutters), which manage water drainage along the sides of the road, are 100 per cent complete.
The next layers of the road are also progressing steadily. The GSB (Granular Sub-Base), which forms the base layer under the road, is 85 per cent complete. The WMM (Wet Mix Macadam), another layer that provides strength to the road surface, is 84 per cent complete.
The DBM (Dense Bituminous Macadam), which is the first layer of the blacktop road, is 82 per cent complete.
The project also includes building 1,500 structures like bridges, underpasses, and others. Out of these, 1,460 structures have been completed so far.
Overall, the entire expressway construction is about 79 per cent completed, according to the UPEIDA.
