Indian Navy Demonstrates Combat Readiness With Anti-Ship Missile Tests—All You Need To Know

The Indian Navy on Sunday (27 April) successfully conducted multiple anti-ship missile firings to demonstrate its combat readiness.

In a statement released on X, the Navy said, "Indian Navy Ships undertook successful multiple anti-ship firings to revalidate and demonstrate readiness of platforms, systems and crew for long range precision offensive strike".

"Indian Navy stands Combat Ready Credible and Future Ready in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests Anytime Anywhere Anyhow," the statement added

These tests come amid heightened tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad, following the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on 22 April, in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed.

Earlier on Thursday (24 April), the Navy's newest indigenous guided missile destroyer, INS Surat, successfully test fired the Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MR-SAM) system in the Arabian Sea.

Developed jointly with Israel, the MR-SAM is highly effective against both surface-to-surface missiles and aerial threats, with an interception range of about 70 kilometers.

Describing it as a "proud moment for Atmanirbhar Bharat", the Indian Navy said, "INS Surat successfully carried out a precision cooperative engagement of a sea skimming target marking another milestone in strengthening our defence capabilities".

INS Surat, commissioned in January 2025, is the fourth and final Visakhapatnam-class guided missile stealth destroyer under the P15B project. It ranks among the largest and most sophisticated destroyers in the world. I

The warship has an indigenous content of 75 per cent and is equipped with state-of-the-art weapon-sensor packages and advanced network-centric capabilities.

These recent Navy demonstrations align with India’s firm stance against terrorism.

After the Pahalgam terror attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed that the terrorists responsible would be "identified, tracked, and punished."
