Hindenburg Research, the short-selling firm which gained global attention for its reports on Indian billionaire Gautam Adani and his companies, is shutting down.

Founder Nate Anderson announced the decision on Wednesday (15 January), marking the end of a controversial chapter in financial research.

Anderson explained that the closure was part of a long-planned decision.

“As I've shared with family, friends and our team since late last year, I have made the decision to disband Hindenburg Research," he said.

The plan was to conclude operations after completing the pipeline of ideas the team had been working on.

With the final Ponzi cases now completed and shared with regulators, the decision to disband was implemented.

The closure comes shortly after a Republican Congressman urged the US Department of Justice to preserve documents related to Adani investigations.

“There is not one specific thing—no particular threat, no health issue, and no big personal issue. Someone once told me that at a certain point a successful career becomes a selfish act,” Anderson explained.

Reflecting on his journey, Anderson noted that he could have found contentment earlier had he allowed himself but felt the need to endure challenges first.

He acknowledged that the intensity and focus required came at the expense of experiencing much of the world and spending time with the people he cared about.

He now considers Hindenburg a chapter in his life rather than something that defines him.

Hindenburg Research's 2023 reports targeting the Adani Group caused significant financial losses to the Indian conglomerate, wiping out a large portion of its market value, though much was later recovered.

Despite the serious allegations, Gautam Adani and his companies have consistently denied all accusations made by the short-selling firm.
