India and China held the 23rd round of Corps Commander-level talks at the Moldo-Chushul border meeting point on the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on 25 October, focusing on maintaining peace and stability in eastern Ladakh, the Chinese Defence Ministry said on Wednesday (29 October).

“The two sides engaged in active and in-depth communication on the management of the western section of the China-India border,” the ministry stated in its readout.

The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to ease tensions that have persisted along the LAC since the 2020 border standoff.

While there was no immediate comment from Indian officials, Beijing said both sides had agreed to continue their engagement.

“They agreed to continue communication and dialogue through military and diplomatic channels under the guidance of the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, and jointly safeguard peace and tranquillity in the China-India border areas,” the Chinese Defence Ministry said.

Recently, the resumption of direct flights significantly boosted bilateral exchanges between India and China, which had been suspended since 2020 due to the pandemic and strained diplomatic relations.

The new Kolkata–Guangzhou route is expected to boost business travel, tourism, and cultural engagement, while providing a faster link for traders and students between eastern India and southern China.

Aviation authorities indicated that additional routes could be restored in the coming months, depending on passenger demand and regulatory clearances.
