Indian Army To Get Air Defence Fire Control Radars From BEL Under Rs 2,000 Crore Deal

The Ministry of Defence has signed a Rs 2,000 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the supply of advanced Air Defence Fire Control Radars to the Indian Army, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement on Friday (25 July).

This procurement falls under the 'Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured)' category and aligns with the government’s push for Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

The new radars are designed to detect a range of airborne threats, including fighter jets, attack helicopters, and drones, significantly bolstering the Indian Army’s air defence capabilities.

With at least 70 per cent indigenous content, the system represents a major stride in reducing dependency on foreign technology while strengthening domestic defence production.

The contract was inked and exchanged by senior officials of MoD and BEL in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on Friday.

Their induction is expected to not only modernise military infrastructure but also fuel domestic economic growth by creating opportunities for Indian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which will contribute to components manufacturing and raw material supply.

The Ministry said, “The procurement marks a pivotal step towards empowering indigenous defence industries by encouraging Indian MSMEs through component manufacturing and raw material supply.”
