The Indian Navy inducted its eighth and final Missile Cum Ammunition (MCA) Barge, LSAM 11 (Yard 79), in a ceremony in Mumbai on Friday (7 March).
The induction ceremony was held at Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.
The event marked the completion of a contract awarded to SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, an MSME shipyard based in Visakhapatnam. Commodore Rajesh Bargoti was the chief guest at the ceremony.
With the delivery of LSAM 11, the shipyard has fulfilled its contractual commitment to supply all eight barges to the Indian Navy.
The contract for these vessels was signed on 19 February 2021, with the aim of enhancing the Navy’s logistics capabilities.
The Barges have been built in accordance with relevant Naval Rules and Regulations of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
"MCA Barges are proud flag bearers of Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives of Government of India and highlight the Indian Navy’s commitment to encourage MSMEs," the Defence Ministry said in a statement.
According to the ministry, seven of these MCA Barges have already been inducted and are providing an impetus to the operational commitments of Indian Navy by facilitating transportation, embarkation and disembarkation of articles and ammunition to Indian Navy platforms both alongside jetties and at outer harbours.
