Indian Wrestler Antim Panghal And Her Team To Be Deported From Paris Olympics For 'Disciplinary Breach': All You Need To Know

Indian wrestler Antim Panghal and her team are set to be deported from Paris after her sister, Nisha, used Antim's accreditation to gain entry into the Olympic Games Village during the Paris Olympics 2024, leading to her detention by the police.

Nisha was questioned by the police but was released shortly after.

As a result, the authorities decided to deport Antim's entire entourage and cancel her accreditation.

Earlier, Antim suffered a 0-10 defeat to Turkey's Yetgil Zeynep in the women's 53 kg category.

"The Indian Olympic Association has decided to fly wrestler Antim and her support staff back after a disciplinary breach was brought to IOA's notice by the French authorities," the IOA said in a statement, NDTV reported.

Following her defeat, Antim returned to the hotel where her designated coach Bhagat Singh and her actual coach Vikas were staying, according to aPTI report.

Nisha was taken to a local police station to record her statement, and the 19-year-old junior world champion Antim was also summoned by the police to give her account of the incident.

Adding to the complications, Antim's personal support staff, Vikas and Bhagat, allegedly traveled in an inebriated state in a cab and refused to pay the fare, prompting the driver to call the police.

The 19-year-old debutant's chance to remain in contention for a bronze medal through repechage was also ended when Zeynep lost to Annika Wendle of Germany in the quarterfinals.

Earlier, World Championships bronze medallist Antim, one of the first to secure an Olympic quota in the category previously held by Vinesh Phogat, was defeated in 101 seconds in the first round.
