India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Likely To Be Launched By October, Bihar–Delhi Route Under Consideration: Report

The Ministry of Railways is preparing to introduce India’s first sleeper version of the semi high-speed Vande Bharat train, likely linking Patna or Sitamarhi in Bihar to New Delhi, reported The New Indian Express.

The roll out of the inaugural rake is expected by the end of September or the first week of October, well ahead of Bihar’s 243-member Assembly elections in November.

The train has already completed successful trial runs and is undergoing final modifications.

Engineers are fitting it with advanced onboard facilities to enhance comfort and safety.

“The sleeper version of Vande Bharat train will cater a great need of the people of Bihar passing through the UP's many areas to New Delhi,” a railway source was quoted as saying by TNIE.

Although the exact route is still under discussion, officials believe the new service will reduce the festive-season rush and offer a faster alternative to existing premium trains such as the Tejas Rajdhani Express and other superfast services to Delhi.

The sleeper variant aims to extend the Vande Bharat brand’s speed and modern amenities to long-distance overnight journeys.
