In response to surging passenger demand and high occupancy rates, Indian Railways has announced it will add more coaches to seven existing Vande Bharat Express trains operating on busy routes across the country.
The Railways has decided to upgrade the coach capacity of multiple Vande Bharat Express trains based on comprehensive analysis of occupancy data and passenger traffic patterns for the financial year 2025-26.
The expansion includes both 16-coach and 20-coach configurations to better serve high-demand corridors.
Three Vande Bharat Express services will be expanded from 16 coaches to 20 coaches:
Mangaluru Central-Thiruvananthapuram Central Vande Bharat Express (20631/32)
Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express (20701/02)
Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli Vande Bharat Express (20665/66)
Four trains will see their capacity doubled from 8 coaches to 16 coaches:
Madurai-Bengaluru Cantonment Vande Bharat Express (20671/72)
Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express (22499/00)
Howrah-Rourkela Vande Bharat Express (20871/72)
Indore-Nagpur Vande Bharat Express (20911/12)
The expansion is expected to significantly improve travel convenience by increasing seat availability and reducing waiting lists on these popular routes.
