Kerala: Congress Files Police Complaint Against Suresh Gopi, Alleges Voter List Fraud In Thrissur

The Congress in Kerala has launched a legal offensive against Union Minister and MP Suresh Gopi, accusing him of electoral fraud in the 2024 General Elections, reported The Hindu.
Former Thrissur MP T N Prathapan on Tuesday (12 August) filed a complaint with the Thrissur Police Commissioner, demanding a criminal probe into Gopi’s alleged false affidavit claiming over six months’ domicile in the constituency before filing his nomination.
Prathapan alleged that Gopi misled the Election Commission of India (ECI) by asserting that he and 11 family members had fulfilled the mandatory six-month residency requirement for voter list inclusion.
He accused authorities of ignoring a vast discrepancy between the draft and final voters’ lists, claiming 60,000 fake voters were added using empty flats, houses, and fictitious identity proofs. “When the Congress raised a complaint with the District Collector, he claimed helplessness,” Mr. Prathapan stated.
CPI(M) leader and Education Minister V Sivankutty demanded Mr. Gopi’s resignation, urging him to “show the moral courage” to face constituents. Police have increased security at Gopi’s office amid protests. He has not yet responded to calls for resignation.
