Police on Tuesday (12 August) detained Bajrang Dal and BJP workers attempting to enter the Peddamma Thalli temple in Banjara Hills to perform prayers, as tensions over the temple controversy escalated, news agency ANI posted on X.

Telengana BJP president N Ramchander Rao said, “The Congress government, which demolished the Peddamma temple in Banjara Hills, desecrated the deity's idol, disrupted the Bonalu festival, and subjected Hindus to torture, is now obstructing the performance of worship to the Goddess.”

“Today, they have illegally and unjustly placed me under house arrest for planning to perform Kumkumarchana to Peddamma and launch a massive Tricolour flag rally with tricolour flags, which is tantamount to declaring war on Hindu society,” He further said.

According to reports, the dispute stems from allegations earlier this week that a portion of the temple structure at MLA Colony in Banjara Hills was demolished, a move that sparked protests from locals and political activists.

The matter has since fueled political tensions, with Hindu organisations calling for accountability and an immediate probe.

Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bajrang Dal, and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) met Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Vikram Singh Mann, demanding swift action over the issue.

The delegation included former MLA Chinthala Ramchandra Reddy, Bajrang Dal State Convenor Shivaramulu, Co-convenor Mukesh Yadav and other leaders, who also raised complaints about alleged high-handed behaviour by local police personnel.

In an official statement, Additional Commissioner Vikram Singh Mann said that on 31 July, BJP leader and former MLA Chinthala Ramchandra Reddy, Bajrang Dal State Convenor Shivaramulu, Co-convenor Mukesh Yadav and other leaders from BJP, Bajrang Dal and VHP had submitted a representation to him.

According to Mann, the leaders had “requested for a quick solution to the issue related to the Peddamma Talli temple, Banjara Hills.” He added that they “also complained about the high-handed behaviour of the local police.”

Mann stated that he had assured them that “after conducting due inquiry, appropriate action will be taken.”
