Lucknow Metro To Span 34 km After Modi Cabinet Nod For 11 km Phase-1B Corridor Linking Heritage Sites And Key Commercial Hubs

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project in Uttar Pradesh.

The new corridor will cover 11.165 kilometres and include 12 stations, with seven underground and five elevated.

Once operational, the expansion will increase Lucknow’s active metro network to 34 kilometres.

Phase-1B will extend metro connectivity into the oldest and most densely populated areas of the city, which currently lack efficient transport links.

The project is designed to ease traffic congestion on busy routes in Old Lucknow by offering a fast, reliable alternative to road travel, while also reducing carbon emissions through greater use of public transport.

Improved access to the airport, railway stations and bus depots is expected to enhance mobility across the city, while better connectivity is likely to stimulate local businesses and attract new investment in areas near the metro stations.

By expanding affordable, efficient transport to more parts of the city, Phase-1B is set to improve commute times, increase access to essential services and contribute to a better quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
