The priority corridor of the Bhopal Metro, running 7.5 km from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS, is on track to begin passenger operations by October 2025, officials from the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPRCL) have confirmed.

The corporation is currently finalising documentation for submission to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), whose clearance is essential before the service opens to the public, Times of India reported.

This follows the successful completion of Oscillation and Emergency Braking Distance (EBD) trials conducted by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), which evaluated ride comfort, braking efficiency, and overall system reliability.

The certification report from RDSO is expected within a week.

This elevated stretch, comprising eight stations, represents an investment of Rs 2,225 crore and forms a key part of the larger Rs 6,941 crore Bhopal Metro project, which spans phases I and II.

The initiative is designed to ease congestion and provide modern, sustainable urban transport in the city.

Work at stations such as AIIMS, Alkapuri, and the DRM office is progressing at full pace, with crews focusing on flooring, system rooms, and other final fit-outs.

To meet deadlines, MPRCL has introduced dual work shifts in preparation for the CMRS inspection scheduled for early September.

The new line will offer trains operating at speeds between 40 and 60 kmph, along with modern commuter facilities including escalators, lifts, Braille signage, and accessibility features for differently abled passengers.
