Lucknow is set to get major relief from traffic congestion with the proposed construction of a four-lane elevated corridor from PICUP Turn to Shaheed Path via Lohia Hospital, the Hindustan Times reported.

Planned by the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation, the 3.05-kilometre stretch will cost an estimated Rs 489.02 crore and is expected to benefit over two lakh commuters daily.

The project aims to ease bottlenecks along one of the busiest arterial roads of the city, which often experiences heavy traffic delays affecting ambulances, emergency vehicles heading to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, as well as convoys bound for the Lucknow High Court.

Once completed, the corridor will ensure smoother movement for office-goers, patients, and dignitaries, while cutting down travel time significantly.

Technical surveys, traffic studies, soil testing, and urban flow analyses have already been completed, with the project report prepared and awaiting final approval and budget release.

The corridor will cover key stretches of central Lucknow, including Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, the Allahabad High Court’s new bench, and several government offices and commercial centres. Enhanced connectivity to these hubs is expected to improve administrative, legal, and business operations in the city.

The project is being driven with strong backing from Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh and East assembly constituency MLA OP Srivastava, who have emphasised the urgent need to strengthen the central city traffic infrastructure.

Beyond easing congestion, the elevated road will also provide faster connectivity between central Lucknow and Shaheed Path, one of the city’s rapidly developing transport corridors.
