Maharashtra Government Approves Permanent Land Transfer To Expediate Pune’s Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line

In a move aimed at expediting Pune’s Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line-3, the Maharashtra government has sanctioned the permanent transfer of 48,600 sq. metres of land in Yerawada to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

The decision, initiated by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, is designed to bolster the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) needed to sustain the metro project’s implementation, Punekar News reported.

The transferred land, spread across multiple city survey plots—14,880 sq. m (City Survey 2201), 15,660.1 sq. m (City Survey 2216), and 15,954 sq. m (City Survey 2220) has been allotted as a substitute for 10 hectares 60 R of land located in Bhamburda.

Officials said the handover is permanent and free of cost, granted under the provisions of the Maharashtra Land Revenue Act, 1966, and the Rules, 1971.

The government has also directed the Urban Development Department to expedite changes in land-use reservation for the education complex situated on City Survey 2220.

The land will be exclusively utilised for the metro project, with the Pune District Collector required to secure a written undertaking from PMRDA ensuring compliance with the stated terms. Any deviation could lead to government repossession of the property.
