BKC Station
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishaw on Saturday (3 May) inspected the under-construction Bandra Kurla Complex station in Mumbai for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project.
During the visit, the minister noted that work at the BKC station — the only underground station in the entire 508-Km bullet train corridor — is progressing at a fast pace.
In a post on X, the minister highlighted the construction milestone achieved on the BKC station so far, including
Completion of 75 per cent of excavation work, amounting to over 14 lakh cubic metres of earth removed.
Completion of 100 per cent of secant piling, with 3,384 piles installed to stabilise the site.
Over 2.7 lakh cubic metres of concrete work has been finished.
Side wall strengthening works have also been successfully completed.
"Work on the bullet train’s origin station at Mumbai’s BKC is progressing rapidly. Tunnel construction is also moving swiftly, and in the Maharashtra section beyond the tunnel, all remaining work is picking up pace now that land acquisition is complete," the minister said.
"A multi-storey building is coming up above the station, with three basement levels—B3 will be used for parking, B2 for operational work, and passengers will enter the station from B1 and the ground level. A truly world-class station is taking shape here," he added.
The 508 Km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, also known as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, will pass through the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
The project has 12 stations planned at Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Billimora, Surat, Bhaurach, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.
The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is the implementing agency for the mega railway project.
