The government has relieved Krishnamurthy Subramanian from his post as Executive Director (India) at the International Monetary Fund, as per an official notification on Friday (3 May).
Subramanian, who was the former chief economic advisor to the Central government from 2018 to 2021, joined the multilateral agency in 2022.
"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the termination of services of Dr Krishnamurthy Subramanian as Executive Director (India) at the International Monetary Fund with immediate effect," an official order dated 30 April and issued by the Ministry of Personnel read, ANI reported.
His tenure as the IMF executive director would have ended in November, 2025, after he completed three years
However, no reason was furnished for his term being cut short by the government.
The ACC, which took the decision, is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Krishnamurthy Subramanian, also known as KV Subramanian, served as the 17th Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India and was the youngest to hold the position.
He holds a degree in electrical engineering from IIT Kharagpur, an MBA from IIM Calcutta, and a PhD in financial economics from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
