Following the release of Rs 1,100 crore by the Centre for the rehabilitation of Polavaram project-displaced families, the Eluru district administration, in coordination with the Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district authorities and the Polavaram Project Administrative Authority, has intensified Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) activities across the Godavari region.
Eluru District Collector K Vetri Selvi stated that 2,799 acres have been earmarked within the district for the resettlement of displaced families, The New Indian Express reported.
She stressed the need to expedite work on land-for-land compensation, the disbursement of rehabilitation packages, and the construction of new colonies for affected households.
The total land requirement for R&R stands at 7,812 acres, of which 1,734 acres are currently under acquisition.
In ASR district, rehabilitation efforts in the mandals of Chinturu, Kunavaram, and VR Puram have entered their final stage.
The Water Resources Department is preparing to convene Gram Sabhas in 32 priority villages to facilitate relocation from areas affected by submergence.
Project officials have already conducted preliminary meetings to address objections and move the process forward.
To streamline grievance redressal, special R&R teams, each comprising a Deputy Tahsildar and 12 support staff have been deployed in every mandal.
These teams are tasked with reviewing individual cases and ensuring speedy resolution.
Relocation efforts in Kunavaram, VR Puram, and Chinturu are being accelerated, while Eluru district continues its land acquisition drive to secure land-for-land compensation for Adivasi tribal families.
According to the Polavaram Project Authority, Rs 71.06 crore will be distributed to 781 displaced families.
Additionally, Rs 828 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of 10,701 houses and the acquisition of 4,139 acres.
