Nagpur Unveils Rs 25,567-Crore Urban Mobility Plan With Bus Hubs, Two Mass Transit Corridors, Road Links To Metro Stations

Nagpur is set for a major transport revamp as the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has prepared a Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) worth Rs 25,567 crore to ease growing congestion and expand public transport across the city.
At a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the CMP was discussed with inputs from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, senior bureaucrats, and public representatives.
Post-Covid urban expansion has placed immense pressure on Nagpur’s road network, with hundreds of vehicles being registered every day, Gadkari noted during the meeting. He urged authorities to act swiftly under the new plan to prevent public transport from being overwhelmed.
Bawankule suggested that the CMP also cover new road links from metro stations to settlements and provide robust connectivity to industrial hubs in Koradi, Kamthi, Kanhan, and Khaparkheda, where energy plants and mines are located.
To improve accessibility, the plan proposes developing bus station hubs at Parsodi, Khairi, Wadi, Kapasi, and Kamthi, alongside strengthening services in non-metro areas. Upgradation of Morbhavan and Ganeshpeth bus stations has also been prioritised.
Of these, the Sitabuldi–Koradi line has been given top priority for early development.
Originally drafted by the Nagpur Improvement Trust in 2013, the plan was revised by Maha Metro in 2018 and has now been updated again to meet the wider needs of the future.
Officials said the CMP aligns with MoHUA guidelines, ensuring an integrated, inclusive, and sustainable transport system for the Nagpur Metropolitan Region.
