Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu on Wednesday (17 September) announced that the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh will be inaugurated on 30 October, with flight operations expected to begin within 45 days of the launch, the Indian Express reported.
“We are trying to push up the inauguration of the airport so that we can see it happening soon, and right now the date that we have decided is October 30,” Naidu said.
He said airlines see significant potential in the region and at least 10 cities will be connected in the first phase.
“The flights will be connecting to Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, and primarily all metro cities. We are in talks with Indigo, but there is no confirmation as of now,” he said.
Naidu said the airport is being planned as both a passenger and cargo hub. He noted that discussions with airlines indicate strong interest, and the project is seen as an important step for civil aviation connectivity as well as cargo movement.
